Unlike other types of agate, moss agate does not consist of chalcedony organized in regular layers or bands. Instead it is a form of agate in which green minerals, such as chlorite, are embedded in a matrix of chalcedony, forming patterns suggestive of moss. It is also sometimes known as Tree Agate.
