I love seeing kids express themselves with jewelry. My twin toddler nephews each wear a necklace I made out of leather cord and a couple small lake rocks. Payton wears a plethora of necklaces she has made with me, and I have made for her. The easiest type of necklace for a kid to wear seems to be one that has a simple pendant strung on a cool stringing material. For the "pure love" pendant, which is so perfect and sweet, I chose Hawaiian Rainbow sewn edge silk ribbon. This could be finished with the child being able to tie a bow or knot every time it's worn or a knot could be tied in such a place that the necklace easily slides on and off their head. I love Green Girl Studio pieces. Their designs are so whimsical, playful and natural making them a perfect fit for making children's gifts (see the products to purchase below for more ideas on Green Girl Studios focals you could use).
To attach the focal and keep from moving around, I like to make an overhand loop knot at the top of the focal after stringing it on the ribbon. Then I added on one accent bead and some knots along each side of the ribbon for a little something extra, rather than stringing on a lot of beads.
