I just fell in love with these Czech glass buttons. Typically I am drawn towards handmade metal buttons and I still do love them, but these Czech glass ones offer such beautiful colors and textures that I immediately new they were keepers. The great thing about these buttons is that they work really well with leather and other cords. Using the 12 ply Irish waxed linen, I was able to stitch the buttons right onto the TierraCast leather strap. I can't wait to have time to make another wrap bracelet using these buttons!
Lay out your supplies.
String 6"-7" of drops (depending on length of your bracelet) onto 3 ply, 4 ply or 7 ply Irish waxed linen.
Lay out the Czech glass buttons at the end of the leather strap. Mark their width on the back of the leather.
Cut a slit for each button hole based on your markings.
Make sure your buttons fit through their holes.
Punch holes along bottom of the leather strap under the button holes and across the leather strap, up to where the buttons will be.
Use your 12 ply Irish waxed linen to attach the strand of pebble drops using a running stitch through the holes punched in the leather.
After stiching on the strand of drops, finish off with a few more stitches using both strands of Irish waxed linen.
Once again, lay out the Czech glass buttons, but this time where they need to be stitched on.
Take the 6" length of 12 ply Irish waxed linen, double over, and string through the shank loop.
To stitch the buttons to the bracelet, punch 2 additional holes next to each slit you cut for the button shanks. After the holes are punched, stitch on the buttons. Knot a few times on the back to secure.
