I just love these tassel caps! The loops around the bottom make it so easy to make a cool tassel for any project. I chose to funk up my tassel a little ;) using random scraps of ribbon, some chain and other odds and ends I came across.
The products used in this project are listed below.
Cut several lengths of your chosen styles of chain, trying to keep the lengths consistent.
Attach charms to ends of chain using a small jump ring. I chose to add 2 tiny charms on the end of each length. Adding charms will help keep your chain taut.
Using the same small jump rings, attach your chains to the tassel cap. Try to space somewhat equally around the cap, leaving room for your ribbons and strings.
Gather all your bits of random ribbons. I never throw my unused pieces away, I save all of those scraps in a jar together for fun projects like this.
Once you have all of your chains attached, begin filling in the remaining open loops with your ribbons and strings. Adding knots as well as charms and beads can additional interest and texture.
This is what a completed tassel can look like :)
Tie a 12" length silk string or leather cord to the tassel cap top loop by doubling over your string and tying an overhand knot.
String on a decorative metal bead, approx 10mm, then a large faceted wood bead. Secure in place by knotting a couple more times, then string on some African glass rings.
Since my necklace is made to slip over my head, I don't need a clasp. This allows me to attach the silk string to the 2 ends of chain. You can do this by stringing the silk through the chain links and tying several overhand knots.
