This piece is a great example of creating a versatile focal component using spikes/fringe. It could work with silk string, leather cord, chain or a strung strand of small beads - all you need to do is attach to your choice with 2 jump rings.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step

Step 1

Cut a 6" piece of 20 - 22 gauge wire and form a wire wrapped loop at one end. You are essentially making a large wire wrapped bead link. String on 2 11/0 seed beads, then a spike. Repeat this until all spikes are strung on the wire. Finish with 2 more 11/0 seed beads.

See Tip: Wire Wrap a Bead Link

Step

Step 2

Form a wire wrapped loop after you are done stringing. Gently shape your wire into an arc so your spikes radiate off.

Step

Step 3

One stringing material I considered was this small etched cable chain. I would have connected using either the chain links at the ends or a jump ring.

Step

Step 4

I ended up selecting a stand of "Christmas" African trade beads. I love the interest that the mix of colors, patterns and textures gives.
