Following on the heels of my icicle ornaments I thought to flip the design and make little Christmas tree ornaments. These are so fun to make. You can also choose to make it without the ornament hook and create a display of trees for on your mantle or window sill.
The products used in this project are listed below.
Cut 24" of 18 gauge wire. Make a large loop at one end, this will be the bottom.
String on an entire 16-17" strand of 6mm crystal faceted rondelles.
Bend the tip of your wire over so beads don't fall off. Use an empty paper towel roll or something similar to wrap your beaded wire around. Now that you have your coil, begin to shape it into a conical tree shape. When you are happy with your shape, pull your crystal snugly together and bend your wire sharply up. Trim wire with 8mm remaining.
Using Lima Studios 5-minute epoxy or your own favorite adhesive, secure one 12mm Czech glass star to the bit of wire.
Cut your strands of crystal 2mm faceted rondelles into a bowl. You want to have the colors mixed on the strand, this will represent the lights on the tree. Now string 4' of 24 gauge wire with the crystal. Bend over the tip of your wire so beads don't fall off.
Wire wrap your strand of 2mm crystals to the bottom loop of the tree. Now begin wrapping the "branches" of the tree with your strand. When you get to the top, pull off excess crystals and sew your wire through itself a few times to secure.
Now you can choose to embellish further, make a fancy ornament hook, or leave as a decoration to sit on a surface. If you choose to make a hook, you will secure it behind the star, around the crystal.
