These cork focal pieces make it easy to create a simple, unique pair of earrings. To embellish the cork for these earrings, I used an assortment of alcohol inks, metallic fixative, acetate pieces, and brass blanks.
For the gold earrings, place a piece of tape diagonally across the coin focal, leaving the bottom half exposed. Paint the bottom half with the gold mixative. Once dried, slowly peel off the tape.
For the brass earrings, slide a piece of 26 gauge brass wire through the hole of the coin focal. Slide on a brass blank and the acetate stick. Twist the wire together and use round nose pliers to make a loop. Trim off the excess wire and slide the loop onto an earwire. Place a small drop of glue in the center of the cork coin and press the brass blank down so it stays in place. Place a small drop of glue on the back of the acetate stick and press down on the brass blank.
For the alcohol ink earrings, paint the cork with the alcohol inks. With wire, attach an acetate coin the cork coin. Slide a piece of wire through the top of the acetate coin, slide a 4mm bead onto both pieces of wire, twist the wires together and make a loop with the round nose pliers. trim off the excess wire and slide onto an earwire.
