designed by Marie For these earrings, I wanted to hold a rustic ceramic bead in the opening in the middle, to give an earthy vibe to the piece. The ruddy green yarn with hints of orange, yellow, and red rounded out the spring-time feel. Best of all, the yarn helps hold the bead in place, and you can hide the knot inside the bead’s hole. Perfect!
The products used in this project are listed below.
Choose your yarn and a suitable bead. Make sure the bead fits loosely in the opening, as the yarn will take up some space when it is wound through hole all around the piece.
Thread your yarn onto a beading needle. Starting at the first hole on either side of the largest hole at the diamond point, thread the yarn through from back to front, and down through the opening in the middle. Come back up again in the next hole, and again down through the opening in the middle.
Continue in this way around the diamond, being sure to skip the hole at the bottom point of the diamond.
As you come back around to the top, thread the yarn through the top hole. Don’t worry, it is larger and should be big enough for both your yarn and a jump ring. Now pass your yarn through your bead, then through the hole you skipped at the bottom of the piece.
As you pull up the slack, you can position the bead loosely in the middle opening. From the other side, thread the yarn back through the same bead towards the top of the diamond. Pull the yarn tightly, thereby securing the bead inside the opening.
Tie your two ends in a knot as close as you can to the opening of the bead. Secure with a dab of glue if you wish. Then trim the ends close to the knot and pull the knot back into the bead opening from the opposite side. You’re done!
