This necklace is a feast for the eyes. Leather cord, Mali seed beads, and handmade batiked bone beads add unique texture and organic style.
You will need leather cord, 3 batiked bone rondelles, 10 African glass saucers, 4 Greek antique silver ceramic barrels, 1 Greek antique silver ceramic donut, 4 Greek antique silver ceramic spacer, Mali beads, and 1 abalone feather. You will also need cord ends and a clasp for the Mali bead layer. I used waxed cord to create the sliding square knots on the cord necklaces.
For the shortest layer, I had the final length of this necklace at 16.5". I would cut 24" to start. I used sliding square knots to finish all of the necklaces, so be sure you have enough cord for the necklaces to fit over your head. That way you can adjust the length after you put it on.
Check out the image to create the cat's paw knot.
Go up about 2" from the donut focal. Wrap the cord around your finger twice, then back up through the loops and tighten. String on the short tube bead. Do another knot the same way on the top of this bead. This is how I do all the knots in this necklace, so repeat where needed:)
The final length of the middle necklace is 19.25", I would cut a 24" piece of cord to work with. Sting on the beads in the order shown. Use the same knots that I did in Step 3 at each end of the beads.
My final necklace length for this layer was 24.5", I cut 28" for extra. String your Mali beads onto the cord. Use the waxed cord to tie on your feather focal in the center of the necklace.
I finished my necklaces with a sliding square knot using waxed cord. Follow the tip below to learn how to make a sliding square knot.
