Feel the tropical vibes eminate from this beachy boho design. African glass, shell and earthy cord create the short necklace. Then I added some more color with the layers of enamel chain. You can wear this together or separate. The choker necklace could be made smaller to be an anklet or bracelet.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 3mm leather cord
  • glue on cord ends
  • Linhasita waxed cord in 2 colors (metallic gold & turquoise)
  • 4 African recycled glass mini donuts
  • 1 shell pendant
  • 2' of each style of enamel chain
  • 4 jump rings
  • 2 lobster clasps
  • nassa shells- comes in a pack of approx. 100
  • glue

Recommended tools: scissors and lighter

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step

Step 1

Use the leather cord to measure around your neck to see how long of a piece you need, add 3" onto that measurement so you have a little extra. You will need two pieces of the cord. Clip the cord ends to a clipboard so you have a stable place to work. Cut 2 pieces of each color of Linhasita cord each about 2.5' long. Figure out where on the cord you would like to start your braid. I tied on the Linhasita cord about 5" down from the top of my leather cord. You could take a pencil to mark where your braid should be so it is centered where you want. This is a fishtail braid so push the cord up at an angle as you are going. Follow the images shown.

Step

Step 2

Do three fishtail braids on the 4th slide on a shell bead onto the middle blue cord sticking out on the right. Follow the images.

Step

Step 3

Do two fishtail braids then slide on the African mini donut. Do two more fishtail braids and slide on a shell, keep alternation until you get to the center and slide on the shell focal. Continue doing the same on as steps 2 & 3 for the rest of the necklace.

Step

Step 4

To finish the braid, wrap the cords around once or twice whatever you need to make it match the other side. Tie two overhand knots on the backside. Trim the excess cord and use a lighter to burn and secure the knots, do the same to the starting side.

Step

Step 5

Glue on your cord ends and attach the jump rings and clasp.

Step

Step 6

This is what it should look like.

Step

Step 7

For the chain layeres I cut 17" of the sunflower chain and 20" of the marshmallow rectangle chain. I attached both chains to the jump ring. I tied on a nassa shell with some leftover Linhasita cord in the center of the marshmallow chain.
