I wanted to try crocheting with Linhasita cord. The cord crocheted easily and shows the stitches beautifully. I chose crystal rondelles in shades of blue and nassa shells to give beach vibes. This design can be worn as a necklace or bracelet.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 0.5mm Tawny PE-2 Linhasita cord
  • 4mm crystal rondelles in 4 colors
  • mother of pearl heishi
  • mother of pearl mosaic round 14mm or 10mm
  • nassa shells
  • coconut beads
  • 2.1mm crochet hook
  • collapsible needle

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1

The finished necklace is 3' 7" in length not including the clasp/loop. You will need about 7.5ft of cord. I didn't cut my cord length first, I just left mine on the spool and crocheted until I was at my desired necklace length, then I cut the cord from the spool.

Step

Step 2

Take the cord end and thread it through the needle. Start sliding on the beads like the bead group in the image. I did six and a half sets of the bead group shown, string all the beads on. I used 57 beads in total.

Step

Step 3

Now the beads are all strung onto the cord, you can start crocheting. Wrap the cord end around your finger twice (image1). Take the crochet hook under the first string and grab the second string with the hook (image2). Pull the cord back through the first cord, this will create a slip knot (image3 &4). Click on the crochet tip link to get more instructions.

Step

Step 4

Keep the cord loop around the crochet hook at all times. Check out the tip below if you need help. Hold the hook in one hand and the cord with the beads on it between the index finger and thumb on the other hand. Slide your first bead up to the loop (Image1). Image2 shows how to bring the hook behind the cord so the hook can grab it and pull it through the crochet hook loop. Once you pull it through the loop, I pull up to tighten the stitch a little. I like mine a little loose. Make 6 stitches after each bead. Keep going until you get to your desired necklace or bracelet length.

Step

Step 5

To finish stitch an extra 2.25 inches, fold this portion over to create a loop. Make sure the loop fits over the pearl bead. Cut the cord from the spool leaving yourself 6 inches to work with. Feed the cord end through the last crochet loop. Now create two barrel knots to finish. Trim and lightly burn the knot to seal it.

Step

Step 6

To finish the opposite end. Tie an overhand knot at the end you started at. Slide the pearl round onto the cord tail. Tie 2 overhand knots to secure the pearl bead. Trim any excess cord and burn slightly to secure the knot.
