Make this recycled African glass bead and luminous pearl donuts, with a straight forward crochet chain stitch, to create a beach-ready look. You can make the look your own by swapping out any large-hole beads in any shape or size.
Begin with a slip knot and start making chains to form the loop for the bead clasp. Every few chains, check if the crocheted cord can fit snuggly around the bead clasp you want to use. Make two more chains and then fold your cord in two, bringing your crochet hook back up to the first two chains made. Continue making crochet chains into the back bumps of the first two chains until you’ve made a closed loop. Chain a many chains as you wish until you are ready to add beads.
Make one chain through the donut hole, and then on the outer edge of the donut, to trap the bead firmly in place. Make one more chain. Continue adding donuts or other such large whole beads, with one extra chain between beads.
See Tip: Basic Bead Crochet
For the clasp, crochet chains until you have a chord at least 5-6 inches long. Cut the cord with a few extra inches of length, and pull through the last chain. Tie an overhand knot with the crocheted chain, slip on the bead for a clasp, and tie another overhand knot tightly up against the bead. Cut the excess cord past the knot and singe the end to prevent unraveling and fraying.
