This leather flower could easily be replaced with another leather focal or 2 hole focal of a similar size. I love ladder necklaces, especially with a bit of fringe up the sides. The styles I was going for with the design of this necklace are: vintage, boho, earthy & a splash of Southwest.
The products used in this project are listed below.
String 3 magatamas onto each of the 2 jump rings to be used to connect the focal to the chain.
See Tip: Closing A Jump Ring
Attach the jump rings connecting the focal to the chain.
Cut 5 10" lengths of 3-ply Irish waxed linen. Make sure to measure the distance between the holes on your focal. You will need to string your beads to this length. String 4 lengths of magatamas and 1 length of a complementary color 3mm round gemstone bead. Make sure to center your beads on the waxed linen.
Tie each strand onto the chain evenly on each side. I recommend tying on a couple, then hold up against a neck to see how it is laying. Then continue to tie on or make adjustments if needed. Don't trim the tails of cord yet.
This is how all 5 strands should lay together.
Randomly tie on 3-4mm beads to the tails of waxed linen to create a fringe on each side.
Just as in Step 1, string 5 jump rings with magatamas - 4 jump rings to embellish the ring for the clasp and 1 jump ring to attach the lobster clasp the the chain.
