I decided to change my cloudy disposition from living through Michigan winters to a sunny one. I brought out my inner beach fantasies in this asymmetrical necklace. I added pearl heishis, Czech glass shells along with fun colors from the outstanding Brazil sodalite faceted slabs and African seed beads. This necklace should keep me in good mind until spring:) Total length is 20"
Tools: scissors and a lighter
Cut 4 pieces of Linhasita. I cut the cord into 72" length pieces. You want extra cord because of all the knotting we will be doing and you may need to add more beads if you would need or like a longer necklace style.
Slide a sodalite bead onto all four pieces of cord. Hang the bead you strung on you to see where you would like the bead to lay. My first bead is in the center of my chest. View the necklace on image above to see.
You can tape down your cord or creae a slip knot on the left side of the sodalite bead so your bead doesn't slide. Your first knot should start on the right side of the first sodalite bead. Create an overhand knot with all four cords. Neatly tighten the bead up to the hole of the sodalite bead.
Slide on the next bead and contiue knotting. I used 6 sodalite beads in total. Tape or create a slip knot on the end until we are done stringing all of the beads on the other side.
On the left side of the first sodalite bead, you should have 4 long strands sticking out.
Start stringing on the beads onto each cord in the order shown. I strung on about 8 inches of beads for each strand. I always make sure to slide on a small bead first so it nestles in nicely next to the large sodalite bead. Check the length of your necklace to see if it's the length you want.
To attach the cord end onto the strands, slide on strand through the first hole on the cord end. Tie one overhand knot, tighten jut enough to bring the bead close enough to the cord end (Image 1), yet leaving yourself a little room for your knots. (Image 1 & 2) Wrap the cord around the overhand knot twice and through. This creates a barrel knot. I did three barrel knots. Feed the cord down through a couple of beads and trim. Use a lighter to slightly burn the knots to seal them. Do the same thing for each cord end loop. Attach a small twisted jump ring to the cord end.
Back to the sodalite side of the necklace. To finish the end slide the cords through a large twisted jump ring. I made a barrel knot by wrapping the cords around the base of the loop twice. Pull the cord through the two wraps you made. Tighten the cord. Create another barrel knot. Pull on the knot to mke sure it is strong and tight. You can always do another if you want to. Trim the cords and burn the knot slightly to seal it.
Take the African seed beads and create 30 tiny bead charms using the head pins. I slide on 1-2 beads onto each head pin. Use round nos e pliers to create a small loop at the top, big enough to slide onto the jump ring. Wrap the excess wire around the base of the loop twice and trim off any excess. Once you have made these, open the large jump ring attached to the cord loop and slide the bead charms on.
Use a small twisted jump ring to attach the lobster clasp to the bead charm jump ring. Make sure the rings are closed tight.
